Measurable Impact
The Edwards location was the beginning to THE WASH HOUSE project.
30%
of Edward’s residents don’t have a washer or dryer in their homes, many also don’t have cars, yet the nearest laundromat was 20 miles way.
35%
of Edward’s residents live below the federal poverty line, and the median household income is $28,061.
10%
of Edward’s residents have bachelor's degrees, leaving the gap of opportunity even wider than the national average.
In 2021, we relaunched the Edwards laundromat as a community centered resource. The hometown of our co-founder Lily Faye Butler Pierre, Edwards is a very small, rural and underresourced community.
The impact of the restoration of laundry services, free Wi-Fi, our youth literacy library, and workstations can be seen in one of the real stories on our site, Keishan, who did all of his high school homework at the wash house and now attends a local HBCU.

“The Edwards Wash House offers essential community service and is a valued community business partner. This is a model for community development I’d like to see.”
Lekentric Caston, Mayor of Edwards, MS
